Dr Melanie Tokley is a Clinical Neuropsychologist and Clinical Psychologist with a wealth of local and international experience. She has over ten years experience working in public hospitals, private practice, and medico-legal sectors in Australia and London, UK. She has worked in acute specialist wards, rehabilitation hospitals and in communities and clinics delivering outpatient therapy.

Dr Tokley is passionate about skillful psychological inquiry into the human condition and has focused her  skills in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness-Based Approaches, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) to treat mild, moderate and severe mood disorders and clinical conditions, including recurrent depression, anxiety, panic disorder, emotional adjustment disorders, and difficulties with emotion regulation and stress management.

Throughout her clinical career, Dr Tokley has worked with a wide variety of neurological and mental health presentations, and patients with complex and multiple comorbidities. She has worked with patients from a diversity of cultures, faiths, and backgrounds, including Arabic and Orthodox Jewish communities. Dr Tokley has expertise in treating patients with Functional Neurological Syndrome Disorder (also known as Conversion Disorder or Somatoform Disorder) and was the lead researcher in a pioneering pilot study investigating the effectiveness of a group-based ACT intervention for this patient population. Dr Tokley has an interest in differentiating organic
symptoms from psychological sequelae for the effective treatment of emotional adjustment disorders to support recovery from chronic or acute illness, and non-neurological and neurological disorders, including epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, traumatic brain injury, and dementia. She is highly skilled in neuropsychological assessment and cognitive rehabilitation to treat deficits in the attentional systems, memory functioning, or dysexecutive syndromes and personality change.

Through her training in both Western and Eastern psycho therapeutic approaches, Dr Tokley works flexibly and dynamically to deliver effective evidence-based psychological treatment tailored to the client’s needs and presenting problems. Dr Tokley is known among her colleagues for her warmth, clarity, patience and dedication to psychological inquiry to guide patients to understand the root of their suffering, and make positive change to support their psychological health, wellness and flourishing.

At Westbourne Park Psychology, we employ psychologists who have both high level qualifications and years of experience. They are easy to talk to and all staff at our practice are welcoming. Three of our psychologists offer after hours appointments. Contact our practice and we will talk you through who to choose.

Margaret Mitchell is experienced and a clinical psychologist. She sees adults, couples and teenagers. She runs our Mindfulness Mediation group.

Jo England is experienced in clinical psychology and offers day time and after hours consultations on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights. She see adults.

Helen White has over 15 years of experience. She is a highly qualified clinical psychologist but still can be a very down to earth person. She sees adults, couples and children. She will see the whole family and works with parents about how to best manage the child. She has some late appointments on Tuesday nights.

Joanne Spadavecchia. Joanna is a lively and warm person who sees adults, couples, adolescents and children.

Susan Bankes has a wealth of experience working in organisations, dealing with work related problems including executive coaching, career change counselling, stress management and WorkCover claims. She is skilled in helping her client deal with anxiety, panic attacks and trauma.

John Gwiazdzinski also works after hours, on Wednesday night, seeing adults.

After Hours Psychologist in Adelaide

In order to help accommodate a busy lifestyle, Westbourne Park Psychology is offering appointments with an after hours psychologist in Adelaide.

We know that sometimes finding the time to take care of yourself is difficult, so feel free to contact our staff on (08) 8272 7885 to find out when we can organise a time for you outside of business hours. Our receptionist will ask for a brief description of your issue so that you can be guided to the best psychologist for you.  Jo England and John Gwiazdzinski have some evening appointments on offer.

There is parking available at Westbourne Park psychology in a car park behind the building. You are asked to come to the first appointment, 10 minutes early so that you can complete the paperwork and start your session on time. Sessions are 50 minutes.

You may be eligible for a Medicare rebate for your sessions. There is a gap fee of $95.20. Generally psychologists who are well qualified, experienced and established as good psychologists, do charge a similar gap fee.

After hours appointments for adults

For adults, Jo England consults at Westbourne Park psychology on Monday, Tuesday and  Wednesday evenings.

She is able to help people with wide range of problems including depression, anxiety and worrying.

John Gwiazdzinski consults only on Wednesday evenings.

All have many years of experience. Together they offer a broad range of psychological therapy approaches including ACT, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Mindfulness and Motivational Interviewing.
