Working with Trauma and High Anxiety
Nevertheless, he has worked in several demanding roles that demonstrate the extent of his work with people exposed to highly stressful situations. His work experience includes prison settings and defence psychology. The focus of his clinical work at Westbourne Park Psychology is in the treatment of anxiety disorders, with a focus on Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and trauma recovery. He understands just how difficult it is to struggle with anxiety and how difficult these problems and symptoms can be to overcome. Anyone with an anxiety disorder can be assured that John will take a positive approach to anxiety, first teaching skills to improve your anxiety management, before working with you to dismantle counterproductive anxiety habits.
John’s experience in psychology covers a wide range of areas. He has worked in several demanding roles that demonstrate the extent of his work with people exposed to highly stressful situations. Gottman Relationship Counselling
His also has a focus on Gottman relationship counselling. Previously couples may have found themselves in counselling running through old conflicts and issues. John will listen and understand, but the strength of the Gottman approach is that from the start, the focus is on education of both parties about the strategies that are needed to not only solve problems in the relationship but to improve intimacy and the quality of the relationship. The Gottman structured approach involves completing an extensive questionnaire which will highlight both deficits in current skills and the relationship skills that this couple needs to learn.
He can integrate this approach into hour by hour relationship counselling. However, many couples find it helps to reset their relationship by signing up for a structured approach that is offered through our Gottman relationship counselling program.
Sometimes a relationship if difficult because one partner is suffering from a psychological disorder such as depression or PTSD. It may be that one partner will be advised to seek treatment with another psychologist at the practice for that disorder.
John is married and lives with his wife and their four children.
